Tech Moves: Expedia Names CFO; ex-Tune CEO leaves Roku; Amazon and Microsoft are moving

The Expedia team so called Derek Andersen as its new chief financial officer starting on May 11. He succeeds Scott Schenkelwho is stepping down after more than two years in this role.

The Seattle-based travel giant hired Andersen from Snapchat’s successor, Snap, where he served as CFO for more than seven years. Prior to that, he was Amazon’s vice president of finance, overseeing its global video businesses, including Prime Video and Amazon Studios.

Andersen said he is looking forward to returning to Seattle to join Expedia.

“The company has built a strong asset, from its technology and consumer products to one of the largest B2B businesses in the industry and is well positioned to shape the future of travel,” he said in a statement.

In announcing the news, Expedia CEO Ariane Gorin praised Andersen’s suitability for the CFO role and credited Schenkel, who previously served as CFO and interim CEO at eBay, for his influence.

Peter Hamilton he is gone Rokuwhere he served as head of innovation for the broadcast platform for over four years. The Seattle-based executive was CEO of Tune, a mobile marketing startup, for more than a decade.

“I came to Roku to see what it’s like to innovate at scale, and I left with a better understanding of the small town of people who make it all happen,” he said in a LinkedIn post.

Hamilton added that he would also step into the role of CEO, but did not say which company.

Ann Johnson he is leaving Microsoft after more than a decade, most recently serving as the company’s vice president and senior security advisor. On May 4, the Seattle-based leader will become Executive VP of Security (Identity & Fraud) Services at MasterCard.

In a Q&A sent out by Mastercard, Johnson described his work in cyber security as “purpose-driven” and said he was eager to join the company. In his new role, he will work to help protect commerce and finance — “such an important part of the ecosystem,” he said.

Microsoft Annie Pearl has a new role as CVP of the Copilot product for Microsoft AI. Pearl previously led product, engineering and design for Azure Experiences and has been with the company for over three years. He is based in San Francisco.

– After more than 20 years with Amazon, Vidya Shastri he left the company as director of software development and is taking a career break. Shastri left last year, but this week shared a lengthy post on Substack reflecting on his decades at the tech giant.

Shastri said on LinkedIn that he had two words at Amazon: people first, product second, and nothing more important than trust. It’s a “virtuous cycle of trust” that makes teams and organizations great, even in this era of dehumanization and AI,” he said.

Judd Lee he is now the chief financial officer Safe Softwarea Surrey, BC, database software company. Lee joins from BrightEdge, and was previously CFO at Seattle’s RealNetworks, Parallels and SignalSense. Safe Software is also called Vanessa Ribreau as an officer of the people.

Jake Osterformer Amazon director of energy, environment and sustainability policy, now VP of sustainability policy and public relations The Oracle.

“At Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, each AI data center is designed with the future of the community around it in mind and we invest in job creation, water infrastructure, and new sources of energy generation,” he said on LinkedIn, adding that he will be based in Seattle.

Jonathan Brickera Fred Hutch Cancer Center public health scientist, has been awarded the Endowed Chair in Cancer Prevention. Bricker has helped develop tools to reduce cancer risk, including the AI-powered QuitBot app.

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory announced leadership changes:

  • William “Bill” Pike now deputy director of science and technology, he previously served as chief science and technology officer at PNNL’s National Security Agency.
  • Angela Becker-Dippmann is the director of the Department of Energy and Environment laboratory, who previously served as director of the EED Office of Program Development.
  • Amy Schmidt is the senior director and chief HR officer, moving from the position of head of talent management.

  • Head of AWS infrastructure Prasad Kalyanaraman he joined the company’s S group leadership team.
  • Cloud computing and AI services leader Dave Brown he was promoted to the position of senior vice president.

  • Daniel Shaperothe company’s chief operating officer since 2021, he is now CEO.
  • Mohak ShroffLinkedIn’s long-time engineering leader, has taken on the new role of president of platforms and digital operations.
